We’ve moved!

October 26, 2010

Hello blog readers!

I’ve moved! The new blog can be found here: www.l-and-company.com/blog.
It’s the same old blog you see here but with updated features and a new layout. I think you’ll like it a lot. Make sure you check it out and subscribe. I won’t be posting on this URL anymore so the subscription you have now is void.

It’s quite a makeover. If you visit now, you’ll find a welcome message from me as well as TUESDAY LOVE!

xo. Stay Inspired,

Lauren

10 funny habits + guilty pleasures…

October 15, 2010

I was inspired by Elsie over at a Beautiful Mess to share 10 habits of mine. She has some pretty silly habits, as do I, but I loved getting to know her a little more by reading about her weird habits! Here are a few of mine…

1. I have a habit of obsessing over how my hair looks. I’m always self conscience about it.

2. Frozen yogurt is my favorite desert ever.

3. I never think about my posture and now it shows. I wish I was a modern day Audrey. She had the best posture.

4. I have a habit of journaling. It just feels good and let’s me get my thoughts out.

5. I drink Starbucks way too often for my own good (and my budget).

6. I continually sit with one foot under by butt until my foot falls asleep and gets tingly. I don’t mean to do it, but naturally I do.

7. I’ve read at least one wedding blog almost every day since I’ve been engaged. I’m afraid I will have the post wedding blues.

8. I cry a lot… probably about once a week. I cry over things I probably don’t need to cry about.

9.I hate answering my phone. I would rather listen to a voicemail or text back. Bad, I know.

10. I listen to the same quickmix everyday on Pandora when I’m designing. It consists of: Lily Allen,  She & Him, Ingrid Michaelson, Jenny Lewis, The Shins, Joshua Radin, Death Cab for Cutie, Feist, Regina Spektor, Coldplay, State Radio and more. It’s perfect.

That’s it! Feel free to share your weird habits! :)

The strangest stock photos I ever did see.

October 13, 2010

Over the last week, I’ve had a couple of projects that have required me to look through lots and lots of stock photos. For those of you that don’t know, stock photos can be purchased by anyone to be  used commercially. I couldn’t help but share some of the strangest stock photos I’ve ever seen. (All credit goes to istock.com and the terrific photographers they accept photos from.)

Awesome.

Oh deer.

This one is titled Tijuana Bus Tour.

Ummm… I just don’t get it.

I take off my shirt every time I go pee too. (No I do not.) And, why is someone taking a picture of this?

The fireworks are behind you.

Fact. Bears eat beets. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.

How did that happen?

Merry Christmas.

They dove.

It’s (a fall) Tuesday

October 12, 2010

My favorite season is fall. I LOVE it. I do wish San Diego had a real fall though… it was 70 degrees today. In honor of fall, here are 10 things that I love.

1. What’s on your fall menu?

2. “I want a girl who gets up early, I want a girl who stays up late, I want a girl with uninterupted prosperity who uses a machete to cut through red tape. I want a girl with a short shirt and a long, long, jacket.” I want to be that girl.

3. Tights and leaves.

4. Pumpkin muffins. Yum.

5. Pink-o-ween.

6. The coolest pumpkins I ever did see.

7. Fall cupcakes.

8. Ah hahahhaha.

9. Hmmm.

10. Fall in the city.

Anything you would like to see on the blog? I’m working on a spiffy new revamp (and hoping to post a little more often than every Tuesday). Drop me a line!

It’s Tuesday, Love

October 5, 2010

Hello! It’s Tuesday and we all know what that means… more things to love!

Today I am tired. And sniffly. And completely unproductive, not out of choice. Where does all the time go when you are feeling sick? :/ Too bad the world doesn’t stop! Anyways, enough complaining, here’s a few things to make your day better.

1. These photos that can be found on A Beautiful Mess promoting Jeremy Larson’s new EP called Fort Christmas. He has good music- check it.

2. This video with a girl named Bianca. A good reminder that God created and knows our purpose.

3. I like lettering.

4. This one is dedicated to Tiffany McHugh who is in Paris right now on her honeymoon! That could be her (well, with brown hair).

5. Color coordinated books are pretty cool.

6. I want a little corner just for me. Don’t you?

7. This is such a cool idea for storing and displaying your necklaces. Easy too!

8. I love pumpkins, pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin decorations, and pumpkin seeds.

9. Celebrity JCrew ad. Yay.

10. Sexy boudoir picture. L & Co. has gone risque.

Happy Tuesday. Stay out of the rain. Eat some pumpkin muffins. Drink a chai tea latte. Stay cozy.

Photographer in Style

October 4, 2010

This one goes out to all my camera-loving (girl)friends out there! If you’re anything like me, I hate taking my DSLR with me because I’m always worried I will scratch a lens or break it somehow. Well, here’s a perfect solution.

Jo Totes makes these wonderful bags/purses that have a spot just for your lens, camera, and extra accessories… and they are cuuuute (and vintage-inspired)! It sure beats carrying an ugly black camera bag.

Here’s 10 more things that I LOVE!

1. Talk about mind maps and RAP!

2. Pretty makeup.

3. Although I am absolutely NOT a fan of tattooing someone’s name on yourself, I love the tattoo.

4. Have you heard of the sketchbook project? It’s pretty cool.

5. Oh, Marilyn… before photoshop and looking good.

6. Oh em gee. I would have died for this when I was little.

7. It’s a secret. I can’t tell you.

8. The best bookshelf I ever did see. It was also designed and built by a graphic designer. Neato.

9. I love, love, love the bubble series. I think I always will. Melvin Sokolsky is so smart.

10. I love this illustration from Freya Art.

HAPPY TUESDAY!

Illustration Inspiration

September 22, 2010

Oh, illustrations. I love them. I want to draw them. They make me smile, they make me want to take over the world with pretty art, they get me going. Here’s a little illustrative treat. Oh, someday… someday… I will try to draw like this. I’ve featured 3 of my favorite illustrators (in no particular order).

First up, Elsie Flannigan (soon to be Larson)…
You can see her work Red Velvet Art.

Next up, Belle and Boo!
Her website is found here.

Last, but not least, Kelli Murray.
Check out her art here or visit Jedidiah Clothing.

Have a good night! :)

A tribute to all men

September 21, 2010

You know the saying, “Anything a man could do a woman could do better?” Well, I must admit that our guest blogger may just be proving that saying wrong. Please welcome Matt Miller to L and Company! He’s an expert when it comes to computers, UFC wrestling, golf, and all things “man”. Oh, and being a great fiance (because he’s mine). Here’s 10 ( uhhh) 12 things, that he thinks are pretty awesome. Make sure you leave him some manly comments. -Lauren

A Tribute to Being a Man

1. I got kicked in the head at Youth Venture last week, my front tooth is chipped, this is how I feel.

2. “Hey you ready? Lets ride the next one in!”

3. You can’t separate a Man from his hunger. What are you hungry for?

4. No comment.

5. Being King of the Jungle, is not pretty.

6. I voted for you Luke, now use the force to fix the economy.

7. Free anaconda rides!

8. Stay down.

9. On fire.

10.  ”Call me CUTE one more time and see what happens.”

11.  Bones are something that represent a Man well. Bones break and heal stronger than before. Men may fail but we come back stronger and harder than before.

12. Tribute to the Stache.

Tuesday Love List

September 14, 2010

Happy Tuesday! Here’s 10 new things that a love and an extra bonus! :) Also, stay tuned for next week’s feature. We have a special guest here at L & Co. You’ll just have to wait and see who it is! I don’t think the guys will be disappointed…

1. This may not look that cool, but to see how awesome it really is visit Dmig, aka. design made in Germany. You’ll see what I am in love with it.

2. Speaking of love, my love for tattoos hasn’t fizzled. Someday I will be brave enough. Until then, I will admire them from afar. Beautiful photo taken by Jagger Photography. :)

3. Love the yellow and gray shoes. Aw, how cute.

4. When I get the hang of being a business owner, I will open a shop, make it beautiful, and a wonderful place to hang out and work.

5. Facebook with a sweet taste of vintage and modern. I love the design.

6. Chipboard letterpress invitations are the new cool.

7. Who doesn’t love shoes? Okay boys, just wait until next week…. I promise no shoes will be included :) (credit: Jagger Photography)

8. I unintentionally live by this. But, I suppose it’s a good thing. And, I love it.

9. I love Joy’s this and that feature. Sometimes it makes me laugh a little too.

10. I have so much respect for illustrators. They rock. If I wasn’t a designer, I would want to be an illustrator. Wait, I am a designer and I want to be an illustrator too!

Okay, okay, okay, I’m already excited for my birthday! It’s 10-10-10. Who wouldn’t be excited if that was their birthday? You can’t blame me for already thinking about it. I wish I was one of those cool people who hate their birthday.  I’m pretty set on asking my family for prescription sunglasses. Well, because my eyes hurt when the sun is out and even more when I have to switch between wearing glasses and not wearing them. It’s practical. But, I would also die for one of these sweet things, which isn’t so practical…

They look like mini polaroids. How fun, huh?

Happy Tuesday! :D
